  • Traditional Postpartum Herbs (Goji, Jujube, Codonopsis, Moringa)
These herbs come from the postpartum traditions of East Asia, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and the Pacific Islands.

Goji berry is a Blood, Yin and Jing tonic for the whole body. As a nutrient-rich herb that contains antioxidants (carotenoids, flavonoids, phenolic acids), trace minerals (zinc, iron, calcium, selenium, germanium, and phosphorus), 18 amino acids and fats, they also help to support breastmilk production.

Jujube, also known as Chinese red date, is warming and tonifies Qi and Blood. It helps boost circulation, has a restorative effect on weakness, low energy, and nervous exhaustion, while being rich in vitamins and antioxidants.

Codonopsis is a demulcent and adaptogenic herb that tonifies Qi. It is traditionally used as a fortifying energy tonic to recover after childbirth and as a galactagogue to increase the quantity and quality of breastmilk.

Moringa is a nutrient-dense herb that is traditionally used to support energy and breastmilk production. It contains B vitamins, vitamins K, E, D, C , A and trace minerals like manganese, copper, magnesium, zinc, phosphorus, iron, potassium, sodium and calcium. Gram for gram, Moringa has 15x the potassium of a banana, 10x the vitamin A in a carrot, 9x the protein of yogurt, 17x the calcium found in milk, and 25x the iron in spinach!

Ginger and Cinnamon provide the formula with overall warming energetics and thus promotes circulation in the body.

    Nutritives (Nettle, Oatstraw, Alfalfa, Moringa)
Known for their high nutrient-density and essential vitamins and minerals. Nettle, for example, is rich in protein, B vitamins, and minerals such as iron, magnesium, calcium, selenium, zinc, chromium, and boron.

Blood-Builders (Yellow Dock Root, all the nutritive herbs, Molasses, Spirulina)
Herbs that build and nourish blood are those that have high nutrient-density (essential vitamins, minerals or micronutrients and proteins). Dark green herbs such as nettles and moringa and algae like Spirulina contain chlorophyll, a molecule that is structurally similar to hemoglobin (instead of iron at the center, it has magnesium). Yellow Dock root is naturally high in iron and helps to release iron that’s stored in the liver. Blackstrap molasses has been traditionally used to boost iron levels and prevent iron deficiency anemia.

    Adaptogens (Codonopsis, Reishi)
These herbs enhance our ability to cope with physiological, environmental and/or emotional/psychological/spiritual stress. Codonopsis is a traditional adaptogen and energy and Qi tonic used in postpartum. Reishi mushroom, known for its immune-modulating effects, can boost energy and vitality while promoting a peaceful state of mind.

Nervines & Nervous System Trophorestoratives (Milky Oat, Nettle, Hawthorn Berry)
Nervines are herbs that support the nervous system. Trophorestorative herbs gradually restore function and nourish a tired, run-down or chronically compromised system. It provides gentle relaxation, mild stimulation, and can be used regularly for months without adverse side effects.

  • Take 1 to 2 tablespoons up to 3 times per day. Enjoy by the spoonful, or add to oatmeal, yogurt, smoothies, sparkling water, etc.
